How to increase the operating life of a battery to meet the required warranty period is a question which many SMEs face. Obviously we need to know the common modes of failure of battery and control them. Although a battery may fail due to many reasons, we shall now consider only the most common modes of failure of batteries.The common failure modes well –known for decades are:

Corrosion of grids and connectors
Shedding of paste from plates
SULPHATION of plates – particularly on negatives
